Electric fences (non-lethal) and manufacture requirements
1 Scope
1.1 This part of SANS 10222 gives additional requirements for the installation and connection of
electric fences to those given in SANS 60335-2-76. The requirements are given to improve the
safety of electric fences and to decrease the likelihood of electromagnetic interference on
communication systems.
1.2 This part of SANS 10222 is applicable to the following types of electric fences:
a) electric domestic pet control fences;
b) strip grazing electric fences;
c) general agricultural electric fences;
d) game control electric fences;
f) electric security fences – general; and
g) electric security fences – specialized.
1.3 This part of SANS 10222 covers electric fences powered by energizers supplied from all types
of electric power sources such as batteries, solar cells, diesel or petrol generators and the electricity
supply distribution systems.
1.4 This part of SANS 10222 also covers the manufacture requirements for electric fence
components.
1.5 This part of SANS 10222 does not apply to systems with peak output voltage of below 50 V.
These excluded systems should not be capable of raising the peak output voltage to 50 V or above.
